Join our full-day teacher professional development (PD) workshops in Brisbane & Ingham (QLD). Feel confident in building your own tech or entrepreneurship projects and delivering class activities. No prior experience required!

Scratch & Makey Makey

Learn to code using drag and drop coding blocks. Scratch is a great way for students in years 3-6 to explore the fundamentals of coding and build their own digital solutions including computer games, animations, interactive stories, music, and art. Makey Makey is an invention kit that integrates easily with Scratch to create your own hardware as part of a digital solution.

Python & Micro:bits

Python is a high-level, general-purpose computer programming language. It has been used in many popular applications: YouTube, Google, Instagram, and Spotify. Learning to code with Python is a great place to start for any beginner. We will learn fundamentals and build a quiz game and text adventure game. We will explore Micro:bits, a tiny programmable computer with built in LEDs and accelerometer, and build simple digital projects. Projects built with Python and/or Micro:bits suit students in years 7-10. Micro:bit kits will be provided for use.

  • Ingham: Tuesday, 9th October

Entrepreneurship

Uncover the secrets to innovation and entrepreneurship. Explore design thinking as a process for innovation. Discover lean startup methodology, Business Model Canvas, and experience in building your own startup in less than 5 hours. Test, validate and pivot your way towards a viable business model. This workshop suits both primary and secondary school teachers.

About the presenter

Emily de la Pena, Founder of Coding Kids and Advance Queensland’s Community Digital Champion, is developing the next generation of creators, innovators and change makers. She often speaks on ABC radio and SBS radio on technology creation, innovation and the changing nature of jobs and industry. She speaks at conferences around Australia including Griffith University’s Cutting Edge STEM - Teacher Professional Learning Day and PyCon - Python in Education Seminar. She runs teacher PD workshops and loves travelling to regional communities to share her passion for STEM. Her work travels have brought her to the Torres Strait, Longreach, Mt Isa, Charters Towers, and more. Emily features in Australia’s Science Channel’s video “STEM Entrepreneurs”.

Fees

  • Standard pricing: $295 + GST per day
  • Makey Makey and Micro:bits are provided for use.
  • Please let us know if you would like to borrow a laptop.
