Learn Digital technologies for teachers with QCT
Join Emily de la Pena in Queensland College of Teacher’s web conference on Monday 7 November as she demonstrates some of the ways she is helping Queensland teachers and students develop skills required in the new Digital Technologies curriculum. Find out how Emily and her team are supporting the next generation of coders, creators, innovators and change makers.
Technologies professional development for librarians
Gold Coast Libraries recently spent three days taking professional development workshops with Coding Kids. We covered a range of activities and projects that will be delivered for the Gold Coast community. The local kids are going to have a wonderful time exploring STEAM at the Gold Coast Libraries.
Gender disparity in tech starts early
Our data shows that 75% of enrolments are boys and 25% are girls. Surprisingly (or not), the boy-to-girl ratio for Coding Kids is very similar to other coding clubs around Australia.
Coding for girls
The gender gap in the classroom and in the workplace is real. The gap is increasing in the workplace. Only 1 in 4 students enrolled in Coding Kids is female. How do we engage girls in technology?
Produce your own animation movie
It’s not just games. You can also use Scratch to program and produce your own animation movie. Your mini-movie can be about fictional stories but you can also use Scratch to animate research projects such as a mini-documentary about the water cycle or lions in the Serengeti.
Integrate Digital Technologies
Integrating the new Digital Technologies into your already choc-a-bloc class timetable can be tricky.
The Digital Technologies curriculum has now become mandatory in Queensland state schools. The remaining Australian states will soon follow. The Digital Technologies curriculum is not a stand alone subject, it is to be integrated into current curriculum subjects.
Machine learning and robots that are learning to “see”
This past school holiday break, Coding Kids took a group of school children to visit the Australian Centre for Robotic Vision at QUT. The Centre specialises in research and development of robots learning to ‘see’. Their ability to see is the remaining technological roadblock to ubiquitous deployment of robots into society…
Top 3 games for Scratch beginners
As I gain experience in game design and preparing lesson plans, I realise that it is actually a lot more difficult to design games for beginner level coders than for advanced level coders. Here are our 3 favourite games for Scratch beginners.
