Live online coding classes (Part 2)
In Part 1, we learned about the nuts and bolts of how live online coding classes work. Live online classes can booked by parents for their children, but our classes are also very useful for regional communities such as schools and libraries.
We also deliver school incursions and professional development workshops which are especially useful for regional schools and libraries. We are currently running live online coding classes with:
- Thargomindah State School
- Wallumbilla State School
- Bulloo Shire Council Library
- Isaac Regional Council Libraries
Thargomindah State School
Thargomindah is located 1000 kms west of Brisbane, near the border to South Australia. We have been running live online classes with the students of Thargomindah State School, Prep to Year 6, since November 2017. Students have been building their own computer games, animations, interactive digital art and more.
Wallumbilla State School
Bulloo Shire Council Library
Bulloo Shire Council covers the South-West corner of Queensland, sharing a border with South Australia and New South Wales. The local council library has been running live online coding classes for the children in the community every school holidays since December 2017. Our classes have included coding, robotics (Spheros, Ozobots, Ezrobot), game design and more. The local librarian has also undertaken professional development workshops covering coding and robotics.

Isaac Regional Council Libraries
Isaac Regional Council covers the area in central East coast Queensland, between Mackay and Rockhampton. There were eight library branches that participated in an 5-week professional development coding course. 24 librarians participated in the program and learned to code, build their own computer games and animations and the fundamentals of computational thinking. Now, the local libraries of Isaac Regional Council are able to run their own coding, technology and innovation workshops for the local children. Professional development workshops are a great way to build staff capability and confidence in delivering tech workshops for the local community.
