Online code clubs, in the comfort of your own home

We have a number of online code clubs this during the school term and school holidays. Learn to code with our fun, friendly, Brisbane-based Coding Mentors in the comfort of your own home. No need to drive anywhere. With the power of internet, you can access our interactive online code clubs.

We’re teaching a number of coding classes for children over the April school holidays:

  • codeBuilder.Scratch for 8-11 year olds (drag and drop coding blocks)
  • hackafun.webDev for 10-15 year olds (web coding)
  • hackafun.Python for 10-15 year olds (text based programming)
  • hackafun.3D for 8-15 year olds (3D modelling)

Quick Article: 10 benefits of coding that have nothing to do with coding

What is codeBuilder.Scratch?

This program is made for for 8-11 year olds. It uses drag and drop coding blocks, i.e. not text based programming, to learn the fundamentals of computational thinking. Students learn to write their own algorithms as they build their own computer games. The focus is on technology creation and not technology consumption. Students build projects such as Pacman, AI Friend, or Pong. Students can also build animations and interactive digital art.

This is a sample game we build with Scratch, “Dragon Castle”

What is hackafun.webDev?

The program is for 10-15 year olds who are keen on learning how to build their own websites from scratch using HTML and CSS. We can use either notepad++ or codepen.io. Our beginner course focuses on simple websites with HTML and CSS and our intermediate course adds in JavaScript to allow students to create interactive features.

This is a sample website that we can build:

What is hackafun.Python?

The Python program suits 10-15 year olds who are keen to take their coding to the next level and learn a text based programming language. Python is a high-level, general-purpose computer programming language. It has been used in many popular applications: YouTube, DropBox, Google, Quora, Instagram, BitTorrent, Spotify, and Reddit.

There are so many programming languages, so why Python? Python is now often used as part of the high school Digital Technologies subject and is often a first year university subject in Bachelor of IT degrees. Python has simple syntax, is highly readable and useful for any beginner project. It is quick to learn and allows you move on from block coding to a text-based programming language to build fun, creative projects. This is a sample game we build with Python, “Text Adventures”.

What is hackafun.3D?

We create 3D models using Tinkercad and learn to manipulate 3D shapes in a 3D space.
