In this quick tutorial, we’ll teach you how to sign up to Thunkable!

We use Thunkable to build iOS and Android apps using drag and drop coding blocks. It’s a fun way for students to learn about app design and computational thinking. Students are able to share their apps with their family and friends. Here is our clear, step by step guide on how to sign up to Thunkable.

First you will need a Gmail account. Unfortunately, Thunkable is only accessible with a Gmail account. We have an alternative option available to you if your family does not have a Gmail account, see below. However, it comes with a few limitations.

Step 1:

Go to the Thunkable website: https://thunkable.com/#/

Step 2:

Click the “Sign in” button in the top right corner of the page.

Step 3:

Click either the iOS or Android button. This is not important. It is easy to change in the future.

Step 4:

Click on the “Sign in with Google” button and sign in.

Step 5:

Bring your username and password to class with you so that you can access your account and save your work. This way you can access your work at home.

But our family does not have a Gmail account! What can we do?

Borrow our account

As an alternative, your child can use the Coding Kids Thunkable account in our classes. However, we do not share our account login details outside of our classrooms.

Access your app at home

When your child has finished their app design, we generate a QR code. We will email this QR code to you. You can access the final product, i.e. the finished app, at home on your mobile phone.

Account access

However, your child will not be able to sign into Thunkable at home and continue building on their app project.

In summary:

  • You don’t need a Gmail account for your child to build their app
  • You will be able to access their finished app at home, via a QR code that will be emailed to you
  • You will not be able to access the project code or have access to the Coding Kids Thunkable account at home

We hope this guide on on how to sign up to Thunkable has been helpful for you. Now your child can experience building their own mobile phone app.

Happy coding!
