Be prepared for your first class
Before your first class, we may require you to sign up to websites that we use. This allows your child to save their work online under their own personal profile.
Your child will be required to bring their username and password to class so that they can log in and save their work. Feel free to provide us a copy of this information if they need support through this process.
N.B. Our tutors are not legally able to sign up minors to social platforms.
Before your Online Code Clubs, we require students to download and install Zoom, which is the program we use to run online classes and connect students to tutors. Zoom can be downloaded from here: https://zoom.us/download Download the first option: “Zoom Client for Meetings.”
You can also refer to this Zoom document, if the install is an issue.
Open Zoom and sign in before the class make sure you can get to a screen which will require a meeting code.
The meeting code for Zoom is listed in the registration email under room details. Email us here if you require the meeting code immediately.

We use scratch.mit.edu to create projects. Please sign up your child to Scratch so that they have their own username and password, it’s free. The signup process requires the use of a guardian’s email address.

Then bring your Scratch username and password to class. Or please feel free to provide us with your child’s username and password so that we can help them to sign on at the start of class. Having an account which the student can sign into will mean they can save the work that is completed in class.
If you are using a computer at a state school
We use https://www.trinket.io/.
Please sign up, it’s free. Then bring your Trinket username and password to class. Having an account which the student can sign into will mean they can save the work that is completed in class.
If you are using your own computer
Please download Python 3.x.x here. It’s free. We will use this to write our Python code.
We use Notepad++ (or Notepad) for Windows computers and Atom for Macs.
- Notepad++: Please download Notepad++ if you have a Windows computer.
- Atom: Please download Atom if you have a Mac.
All files will be saved:
- locally if you are using your own computer, or
- on to a USB if you are using a school computer, so that you can take your files home.
You will need to:
- Download and install VirtualBox
- Download Kali Linux for VirtualBox (no need to install)
- Download Metasploitable 2 (no need to install)

We use Tinkercad to create our 3D modelling projects. Please sign up your child to Tinkercad so that they have their own username and password, it’s free. The signup process requires the use of a Gmail account.
Then bring your Tinkercad username and password to class. Or please feel free to provide us with your child’s username and password so that we can help them to sign on at the start of class. Having an account which the student can sign into will mean they can save the work that is completed in class.
