MicroMakers I - Years 4-6 - $199 incl GST

For students who are new to Scratch. 

Duration: 6 week block

Dates: Tuesday, 18 July - Tuesday, 22 August 2017 and Saturday, 9 September 17.

Day: Tuesdays

Time: 3.15 pm for a 3.30 pm start - 4.30 pm

Venue: A Block Lab AS02

Add a Makey Makey kit to your order for you to take home for an additional $90. A Makey Makey kit is an input device which teaches children about circuitry, conductive and non-conductive materials and how to integrate hardware and software. 

 

MicroMakers II - Years 4-6 - $199 incl GST

For students who are familiar with Scratch. 

Duration: 7 week block

Dates: Thursday, 20 July - Thursday, 31 August 2017 and Saturday, 9 September 17.

Day: Thursdays

Time: 3.15 pm for a 3.30 pm start - 4.30 pm

Venue: A Block Lab AS02

* Thursday, 27 July 17 - 3.45 pm - 4.45 pm - In this session we take a visit to the Australian Centre for Robotic Vision. Guardians are responsible for transport and supervision for the site visit. This is a free tour and the Centre has kindly invited us to visit their research facility.

The Australian Centre for Robotic Vision, located on Level 11, S Block at QUT, Gardens Point Campus. This is a research centre, but Coding Kids has provided the course attendees with special access. Parents will be responsible for transport and supervision for this site visit. The tour starts at 3.45pm and finishes 4.30pm. Students will be able to interact and take photos with a number of robots. Parking is scarce, please consider alternative transport. Please wear closed shoes as this is a work facility.

MicroMakers II

Learning Outcomes

  1. Advance the learnings from MicroMakers I course

  2. Connect coding theory with real life applications

  3. Use coding to solve a problem for the local community

Students will be able to develop their own project over the 6 week course. They can choose to solve a real world problem or design a game e.g. automate household chores, develop an app to help students with maths. They will be able to design and build a digital device, a software program, website, or 3D printed object. The project will be developed and driven by the student with support from tutors in learning to use tools to build their product e.g. 3D design software, app development.
