Information to tell your principal to introduce Coding Kids

If you would like your school to introduce the Coding Kids program to students, there are a few but important details that your school principal may be interested in finding out. We can always come to your school and have a chat with the school principal if that is easier.

About our after-school coding club:

- 1-hour weekly sessions for 8 weeks per term

- $189 per term (based on zero school costs)

- We use the school computer room and internet access.

- No other equipment or expenses are required from the school.

- Minimum of 4 students with 1 tutor, maximum 15 students with 2 tutors

- We place notices in the school newsletter and send flyers home

- Online enrolments: www.codingkids.com.au

- We need to organise dates with the school principal before the last week of term to start the coding club in Week 2 of the following term.

Scratch

Scratch is a free, web-based drag and drop coding platform. There is also an offline version available. We use Scratch to teach programming to primary school students. We have developed five Scratch course levels based on a set of competencies per level.

We have developed our curriculum into five Scratch course levels. Each level is focussed on a set of competencies. Click here for more information on the course levels and its competencies.

Example class content

How do we build a game?  Let’s build this game together, "Knight collects the coin" game: Click here to open a sample presentation. As you can see in the presentation, there are 6 parts to building the game.

As programmers there are principles we need to follow:

- Create a step by step plan before starting to code.

- Only code one step at a time.

- Test your code and make sure it works before before proceeding to the next step.
